Our School Vision/Intent
At Herne Bay High School, we take Careers Education Information and Guidance very seriously. We understand that a strong and stable careers program is the starting block for each student to be able to aspire to have achievable goals. We would like students to feel enabled to make ambitious, informed and realistic choices relating to career aspirations which impact their current and future educational and career related choices. We want to inspire and motive students to achieve their potential and ensure they are informed and prepared for further and higher education and /or the world of work when they leave HBHS. Deciding on a career path is not an easy task and therefore access to information, advice and guidance is essential for every student to make an informed choice about their future and strive towards their aspirations. Our programme is designed to develop personal characteristics which will support students to achieve and thrive in school and beyond.
Staffing and Curriculum
All staff contribute to CEIAG through their roles as mentors and subject teachers. All staff have access to Unifrog and are working towards embedding and understanding the Gatsby benchmarks. Students and staff are encouraged to embed and identify work related learning skills to demonstrate how subject content assists in becoming ‘work ready’. The delivery of careers within the PSHE programme, embedded curriculum links and independent advice and guidance all supports our vision in school. . Careers information is also available in the library. Teachers have also had the opportunity to take part in the Teacher Encounters with Industry through The Education people.
Comprehensive Career Guidance
Our independent careers adviser is available to support students across all year groups. We offer tailored guidance to meet the unique needs of each student:
We ensure that all students receive unbiased advice and are seen by relevant deadlines to support their onward destinations. For students with an EHCP/SEND, additional support is provided through our dedicated SEND provision.
