Career Support for Students
All students receive ongoing support through their mentors, assemblies, careers advisers, weekly newsletters, PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education), and Unifrog.
Year 12
Year 12 students have several career opportunities, including:
- Life After 6th Form Talk: An informative session about post-16 options from CXK Ltd and a local University.
- Post-16 Pathways Conference: Covers a range of topics such as apprenticeships, gap years, employability skills, CV writing, higher education (including Oxbridge and Russell Group), and features alumni, industry speakers, and workshops.
- University Experience: Students can experience being a student for a day two local universities and attend the UCAS Discovery tour for more information about apprenticeships and higher education.
- Progression Information: In-depth guidance on progression to higher education, apprenticeships, and other post-18 destinations.
- Work Experience: In Term 6, students undertake work experience in early July. They are required to find their own placements and log all information on Unifrog. Additionally, a Department of Work and Pensions Employability course will be available at school during the week.
Year 13
Year 13 students receive full support with higher education applications through:
- PSHEE: Dedicated sessions on higher education applications.
- Mentor Support: Ongoing guidance from mentors.
- One-to-One Meetings: Personalised meetings with the Director of 6th Form.
- Alternative Route Support: Dedicated advice and guidance for students not pursuing university, including industry guest speakers, CV writing, employability skills, and one-to-one mock interviews.
Support for All Year Groups
All students, regardless of year group, are entitled to and will receive:
- Regular Support and Information: Through our comprehensive careers programme.
- Guidance: From mentors, assemblies, PSHEE, and one-to-one careers meetings.
- Clear and Impartial Information: About all available options to help students make informed choices and decisions.
- Next Steps Guidance: On further and higher education, training, or employment.
- Workplace Learning Opportunities: Including visits from employers, workplace visits, and insights into various industry sectors.
