Homework at HBHS is an integral part of the curriculum and expectations are the work is completed to the highest standard. Homework is intended to encourage self-discipline and independent study skills in students. It should provide opportunities for students to consolidate, practise and apply skills learnt. Homework should help them to develop skills and techniques and increase their knowledge and ability to learn. Homework can also help prepare students for future lessons, examinations and provide opportunities for students to develop research skills.
Homework provides many benefits to a child’s learning, including:
Homework tasks could include:
HBHS has a set homework timetable for teachers to follow when setting homework. This supports children in ensuring they do not have too many pieces set on one day and none on another. Parents are encouraged to look at the homework timetable (below) to be aware of which subjects are set on which days.
As part of our support in helping students to develop their personal organisation skills, students are required to record their homework being set in lessons in their student planner. Parents are strongly encouraged to regularly look at their child’s planner to see that they are recording homework. Where a student might find this challenging, staff will support them in recording their homework.
Students are responsible for their own exercise books, and they are expected to complete their homework in their book. Occasionally, a teacher might provide a worksheet for homework. In this case, the teacher will give precise instructions.
Some teachers provide resources for the homework via Teams, and may also upload supporting materials, particularly in KS4 and 5. However, not all teachers set homework via Teams as some homework is simply set in the student’s exercise book. Where Teams is used, parents will be able to view any work that has been set on Teams via Haldor Homework. If a resource needs to be printed, a student should ensure that they visit the LRC at lunch time or after school to print the resource for their homework.
Students should think about homework as a way of practising for independent study and revision and as a way of developing their own personal organisation skills. In order to do this, they should

To provide necessary resources to support students’ completion of homework our fantastic library is open after school every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Here your child can complete their homework with the use of our computers, printers, reference library and most importantly a member of staff ready and willing to support. Some children like to get their homework done before they leave school so that when they get home, their time is their own.
