The start of a new academic year is always a busy and exciting time as students dive into their new programmes of study. This term the Faculty would like to spotlight what our Year 8 students have been studying and creating.
In Geography, students have been taking part in a volcano model competition as part of their topic on volcanoes. They were challenged to create a model using any materials of their choice — from paper, cardboard, wood, tin foil, to even cake! The entries have been nothing short of spectacular, with some students even managing to produce realistic smoke effects. Final judging is still to take place, but with so many imaginative and high-quality models, the teachers are going to have a tough time choosing the winners.
Meanwhile, in RE, they have been exploring their creative and reflective sides while studying Buddhism. They have been learning about the teachings of the Buddha, focusing on how he used the image of a lotus flower to explain how people can overcome suffering. Students produced thoughtful and beautifully designed posters showing how these teachings can be applied to their own lives.
In History, the Year 8s have been exploring the Magna Carta, the legendary document signed by King John in 1215. Inspired by this cornerstone of democracy, students got creative and drafted their own modern-day versions, setting out their own rights and “demands” that they would want people to live by.
Excellent effort Year 8s, some really impressive work across the Faculty!
