HBHS Band 3 - Up to £16,000.00 per year

Learning Support Assistants – Help Shape the Future of Inclusive Education

Location: Herne Bay High School
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 28 Hours per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (08:50am – 15:05pm) & Wednesday (08:50am – 14:45pm))

What “Term Time Plus” Means

This role follows the school calendar, meaning you will work during student term time only, plus an additional 2 days across the year. These additional days are typically used during key periods such as exam results, enrolment, training, and preparation days.

Although you will not work all year round and your salary is calculated on a term-time basis, your pay is spread evenly across 12 months, providing consistent monthly income while benefiting from extended time off during school holidays.

This structure offers the security of set working hours alongside an improved work–life balance compared to full-year roles.

Are you passionate about inclusive education? Do you want to play a key role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to achieve their full potential?

Herne Bay High is excited to offer multiple opportunities for Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to join our expanding and forward-thinking SEND team. Whether you’re an experienced LSA, new to education, or exploring a career change, we’re open-minded about hours and experience levels—and we’d love to hear from you.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to support our students on a day-to-day basis while also helping to build an exciting, long-term vision for SEND provision at Herne Bay High.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with identified SEND, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Mentor and encourage students during mentor time to build confidence, resilience, and engagement.
  • Work closely with class teachers and SENDCo to adapt materials, track progress, and maximise student learning outcomes.
  • Take a proactive approach to supporting students who may be absent, ensuring continuity of learning.
  • Participate in supervising access arrangements for students during internal and external exams.
  • Collaborate with departments to deepen your subject knowledge and enhance your effectiveness in the classroom.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A compassionate, patient, and proactive individual who is passionate about inclusion and equality in education.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND is desirable, but training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-focused mindset.
  • A willingness to learn, reflect, and help shape an ambitious SEND provision.

What We Offer:

  • Flexible Working: We’re open to full-time, part-time, or job-share arrangements—just let us know what works for you.
  • Development Opportunities: Regular training, mentoring, and the chance to work on long-term strategic SEND initiatives.
  • Hours: Flexible
  • Contract: Term-time plus 2 days
  • Staff Perks: Free on-site parking, health & wellbeing support, Benenden Health Care, training days, and more.
  • A Supportive, Inclusive Culture: Be part of a school where your voice matters and your work truly makes a difference.
