Year 12 Induction Programme 26-27 June - For Applicants - September 2018/19

(Subject to Change)

We invite all Year 11 applicants, who have been offered a conditional place in our Sixth Form, to attend our induction programme.  A letter has been sent home outlining the process for the day and attendance is important for the following reasons:

  • It is an opportunity for all students to get to know the school routines, environment, teachers and new students prior to September.
  • With the majority of students taking 3 linear subjects, it is vital that they have made the right choice of subjects. During induction students will experience lessons at Level 3 and this should provide an opportunity to confirm you have selected the courses that are right for you.  However changes can be made in September.
  • Students need to be ready to work from day one in September, therefore the induction should provide an opportunity to ask any relevant questions.

Level 2  Course - One Year  Programme

Students entering Year 12 at Level 3 are expected to study their subjects for the duration of two years.

The 6th form at HBHS is a stimulating and supportive environment in which to learn.  Each individual has the opportunity to develop their own potential.  We encourage ambition, self belief, perserverence, integrity, respect and excellence.  We would like all students to be enthusiastic, positivite and hard working.

As well as an academic timetable students have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities and school life, such as:

  • Community Sports Leader Award
  • Higher Sports Leader Award
  • Dance Leader Award
  • Duke of Edinburgh Scheme
  • Fitness L2 Course
  • Peer Coaching
  • Literacy Support
  • Numeracy Ninjas
  • Lower School Subject Support

All students have ALP targets and aspirational grades to work towards and have a personal mentor to support them during their time at HBHS.

At the beginning of Year 12 all students sign a 6th Form Learning Agreement & Contract which details their roles and responsibility within the 6th form. An example of these are:

  • Aiming to work towards a Student’s Target and Aspirational Grades
  • The Attendance Criteria
  • An expectation to wear Student ID Badge and Lanyard at all times
  • No extreme hairstyles or colours eg those that do not fall within a natural range
  • The dress code is to retain modesty and be appropriate eg no extremely ripped jeans
  • The dress code on a Friday and for any trips or visits is formal attire - No jeans or trainers

To continue studies into Year 13 students will need to achieve the required threshold in the end of year assessments along with Head of Department approval.  In addition, Year 13 students may chose to apply for the Extended Project Qualification.
