How to Apply


6th Form Information - September 2017

If you have applied to Herne Bay High 6th Form, on results' day, please collect an additional letter from the 6th Form Team in the covered courtyard.  This will provide you with details of your next steps.  External candidates, please contact to confirm your place and we will arrange an appointment to finalise your subjects and take copies of your GCSE results.

If successful, enrolment will take place on Thursday 7th September from 12.30 -2.30pm in the 6th Form Common Room and lessons will commence on Monday 11th September at 8.35am.

However, should you wish to apply and haven't done so already, please make contact in August, once GCSE results are known on  In addition, should you no longer require your confirmed place, please can you advise us of this, along with your plans.

On joining Herne Bay High 6th Form you will be allocated a 6th Form Mentor who will support you on your journey. Studying at 6th Form is a significant step up from GCSE and you will be encouraged to take greater responsibility for your own organisation, focus and studies.  Your key to success is to use your time wisely and have a positive attitude.

Our Post 16 Information Evening took place on the 23 November 2016.

 In order to apply to HBHS Sixth Form, students must complete a formal online application through  the Kent Choices website.

Our application window opens on the 24 November 2016  and will close on the 3 February 2017. Applications will not be accepted after this date.  If you wish to make an application after this date, please make contact in August when GCSE results are known.

Our entry requirements are detailed in full on the Kent Choices website:

  • To join the Level 3 Advanced Courses students normally require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at A*-C, including Maths, English Language minimum Grade C/4 and Science preferably Grade C.
  • For some subjects the entry requirements differ slightly. For example to study AS Level Mathematics, students need to obtain  a minimum of 5 GCSESs in the range of A* - C/4, including GCSE Maths Grade A, English Grade C/4 and preferably Science Grade C.

Level 3 Courses - Two Year Advanced Programme

Students entering Year 12 are expected to study four subjects in Year 12 and this will reduce to three subjects in Year 13.  In addition, all students follow a PSHEE programme. 

In Year 12, students may select a combination of four single subjects or combine single with a double/triple subject. Please only apply for one double or one triple course to make a total of four Level 3 subjects.

Level 2 Courses - One Year Programme

If you are not eligible to apply for the Level 3 courses, you may wish to apply to join the Level 2 Course -(Preparing for the World of Work) and students normally require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at A*-E, including Maths, English Language at Grade D/3. Following completion of this course, students normally progress onto a vocational route.

Course Advice Meeting:

All applicants will be asked to attend a course advice meeting during the Spring term. Please note, appointments will be posted home with the date and time of your course advice meeting. Your subject options will then be discussed with you at this time.

Transfers from Other Schools and Out of Area Student Applications:

Please make a formal application online through the Kent Choices website..  In addition, we will require sight of your last school report and birth certificate when you come for your course advice meeting and we will apply to your school for an academic reference.

If you live outside the Kent Area, you will need to register on the Kent Choices website to be able to submit an application.  Please follow the 'Before You Apply' instructions on the following website to obtain this information: 

Conditional Offers:

Following your course advice meeting in the Spring term, if a conditional offer has been made, the details of this will be e mailed to you via your account on the Kent Choices website.

Induction Programme:

All applicants will be required to attend our induction programme on the 27-29 June 2017. The 29th June is an optional trip.

Post GCSE Results:

If you have met the requirements of your conditional offer, a letter confirming your place at HBHS will be provided. This letter will provide enrolment information about when you need to attend school to obtain your timetable.

Students transferring from other schools will need to make contact by e mail to confirm their place at Herne Bay High.

If you have not met the conditional offer requirements, additional guidance interviews may be offered to enable discussions regarding alternative course or college options. 

If however, you have made alternative arrangements and  no longer require your place at HBHS please advise us as soon as possible on 01227 361221.
